Only 15% of all PhDs under the age of 45 in Germany work at a university. A fraction of them hold a professorship or a permanent position. The majority of PHDs work in in the business or in the public or non-profit sectors.
But how do academics actually find a “good fit” outside their familiar academic environment? And how do they make the transition to other sectors? What career models are possible?
We will provide an overview of a career strategy, and introduce tools such as “informational interviews” and LinkedIn. Academics who have found career paths for themselves outside of university research share their good practice and advice.
